I fell into accountancy by accident over 25 years ago and have loved it ever since, there’s something therapeutic about numbers and balancing the books!
My career began helping the accounts lady in a SME business that still used manual accounting books and ledgers, my role was to help put these on to spreadsheets to update the way the accounts processes were completed. I was told I had a ‘knack’ for numbers and so after some debating, I became a fully-fledged account assistant and started studying for my AAT. I went on to study ACCA and completed a BSc degree in Applied Accounting. I'm now thinking I'd like to complete ATT / CTA which would make me a tax advisor also, just not sure when I'll have the time to study!
Over the years I have worked for SME companies in a variety of sectors including Catering Equipment, Estate Agents, Builders, Farmers, Entertainment, Hospitality and Wine Merchants. I have also worked for other Accounting Practices so have a fairly broad background that I feel helps me to integrate and understand most business sectors. My passion lies with start-up businesses and being able to help them to achieve their goals and watch them thrive when given the best support. This doesn’t mean that there is nothing left for established firms, the busier I am the happier I am.
